Besides
offering cadets professional formation EFOMM also
offers a variety of sporting and cultural activities.
Sporting Activities
EFOMM
offers students training on a variety of
sports, including Voleyball, handball, basketball,
athletics, judo, swimming, rowing and sailing
regular teams, besides special daily programmed
physical activities classes to enhance physical
capacity.
EFOMM annually takes part in various official
competitions against other educational institutions.
The most traditional ones are against COLÉGIO
NAVAL – MERC- NAV and CIAGA- CIABA,
against the EFOMM of Pará, in a variety
of sports, among which Rowing, Sailing,
important for students’ marine formation,
are outstanding. |

EFOMM
offers a Sailing Club, which enroll students who
practice sailing and rowing. Actually, the Club
has a fleet of Sailboats of the classes Lazer,
Ocean, Ranger and Rescue (traditional boats incorporated
by all merchant marine academies all over the
world). The Rescue Class Boats have a 10 seamen
crew and are a tradition in EFOMM.
Besides
those, the Sailing Club sponsors an annual Sailing
Contest denominated CIAGA, which is officially
included in the calendar of the Row and Sailing
Sports Federation of Rio de Janeiro, as well as
the Rowing Contest “Maritime Power”,
the first of which was won by one of EFOMM’s
Rescue Boats.
Cultural Activities
The
Merchant Marine Academic Society –SAMM,
administered by the cadets themselves, aims at
promoting cultural and entertaining events, offering
options of leisure and culture, integrating the
cadets into the Society and advertising the Brazilian
Merchant Marine through the diverse activities
it takes part in.
| Among
those events there are greeting barbecue parties
among classes, theatre plays, balls and parties,
the students’ chorus , cultural contests,
technical visits, etc.. The SAMM is also responsible
for the establishing and supervision of various
students’ clubs, as the Nautical, Engineering,
Computer Science, Catholic, Christian, Painting,
Environment, etc. |

The
SAMM is also responsible for the edition and internal
distribution of cadets’ periodical Newspaper
? The Pelican, which serves the purposes of advertising
EFOMM’s activities as well as sending the
students important news on our merchant marine’s
activities.
