:. QUALIFICATIONS AND DEMANDED REQUIREMENTS
a) be between seventeen (complete)
and less than twenty four years old;
b) be single and never get married during
the course;
c) have completed the high school level;
d) Minimum Physical Requirements:
.. minimum height: 1,54 (female) 1,56 (male)
.. maximum height: 1,95 (both sexes)
.. weight: the equivalent, in kg, to the
result of the application of the percentage
of 10 % on the exceeding value of 1m on
the height of the candidate, of plus (maximum
limit) and of minus (minimum limit). Example:
an applicant with a height of 1,70m, to
be considered apt, must weigh between 63
and 77 kg. The weighing parameters, which
are not rigid, must be correlated to other
data of the clinical examination (muscular
mass, bone conformation, proportionality,
biotype, localized fat tissue, etc.)
.. visual acuity: 20/40 without correction,
corrected to 20/20 in one eye and up to
20/30 in the other, with best optical correction
possible. The applicant operated for the
correction of myopia will not be considered
apt.
.. vision of colors: light and medium dischromatopsies
will be admitted; and
.. teeth: minimum of 20 natural teeth healthy
or treated, ten on each arcade; normal articulation
and healthy soft tissues;
e) Present health certificate with the following
exams:
.. lung radiography or teleradiography
.. blood: Glucose, Ureia, Full Blood Exam
(FBE), Lues Serology and Anti HIV (ELISA
test)
.. Urine: General Urine Examination (GUE);
and
.. feces (parasites)
f) Be capable of:
- men – running 2000 meters in the
maximum time of 12 (twelve) minutes and
swimming 50 m (any style) in the maximum
time of 2 (two) minutes.
- women – running 1600 meters in the
maximum time of 12 (twelve) minutes and
swimming 50 m (any style) in the maximum
time of 2 (two) minutes.
:. FACILITIES TO THE STUDENTS
a) lodgings and food;
b) uniform and bed clothing;
c) medical and dental care;
d) technical and leisure library;
e) sporting practicing;
f) financial support, in Reals, to small
expenses, even when aboard, during academy
time and practicing time; and
g) practicing time on a Brazilian ship,
when possible (see G annex)

Scholarships offered by CIAGA? Applicants
proposed by the governments of Argentina,
Bolívia, Chile, Equador, Paraguai,
Peru and Uruguai; and to CIABA, the applicants
proposed by the African countries, of the
Central America, Colombia, Guianas and Venezuela.
:. INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION OF
APPLICATIONS
The reservation scholarship request must
be made by the proper friendly country’s
governmental section responsible for the
merchant marine affairs, according to the
regulations (PEPME) found in the Brazilian
Diplomatic Representations.
The confirmation, by the Brazilian government,
about the scholarships granted will be communicated
to the solicitor government up to July 31st,
by the Brazilian diplomatic representative.
:. PRESENTATION DATE
The presentation will be directly
at the designated instruction center up
to the date determined by the Brazilian
government, so that to make it possible
to accord with the adaptation period, in
January.
:. SCHOOL REGIME
The student shall obey the rules
and regulations that regulate his academy
life and discipline in the instruction centers.
The student shall remain in internship,
licenses on the weekends, holidays and school
vacations, during which foreign students
may be authorized by the instruction centers
and at their expenses, to travel to their
native countries.
When aboard, cadets shall obey each ship’s
routine.
The foreign students’ fee may be cancelled
by a Commander´s Act on the following
circumstances:
- completion or interruption of the course
- reproval
- abandon
- serious disciplinary fault
- definitive inaptitude after health examinations
:. CERTIFICATES
By the end of scholar period, the
Instruction Center shall confer the approved
cadet the Certificate of Completion as well
as the Scholar Memory.
The cadet who satisfactorily completes the
apprenticeship period, as ruled in annexes
A and B, shall be conferred, by the Instruction
Center, the Certificate of Competency, as
determined by the STCW –78 - 95, article
VI, according to the item 1, Rule II-I (DECK)
or item I, Rule III-I
:. GENERAL TOPICS
a)
The facilities mentioned in item VI will
not be extended to the student’s family;
b) The Instruction Center will not pay for
students’ transportation, sot even
during scholar vacations;
c) The Brazilian government will not be
charged for expenses related to:
- trip insurance;
- medical or dental treatments initiated
without the Instruction Center´s authorization;
- any compensation in case of death or personal
accident
- loss or personal belongings’ damages
- students’ remaining in Brazil after
the completion (or fee cancellation) of
the course (the responsibility, in any case,
is of the student’s native country,
through its diplomatic representative in
Brazil); and
- apprenticeship period
d)
Health and personal insurance are highly
recommendable; and
e) Annex C has the summaries of Physics
, Calculus and English, considered basic
to the course.
